Warwick is a magnet that attracts more and more super talented bass players. Last year's photo shoot in New York was so popular that it begged for a sequel this year.

So in sunny California a bunch of the worlds most talented bass players got together for a meal and a photo shoot.

There was Verdine White of Earth Wind and Fire, Lee Sklar - perhaps the most recorded bassist in history, The Zulu Funkster himself T.M. Stevens, P-Nut of 311, Bootsy, Robert Trujillo, Ralphe Armstrong, Jacki Reznicek, Divinity Roxx, Mike Inez, Larry Graham, Steve Bailey and mr Hellborg.

Jonas Hellborg and Ginger Baker have just concluded their latest cooperation. A tour of 4 European countries together with percussionist Abass Dodoo and guitarist Regi Wooten.

Presenting a show that highlights the truly unique playing of each of these diverse musicians, the truth how the sum is greater than the parts was evident in the ensemble work displayed in 6 original compositions made by and for this group.

Baker, at the respectable age of 72, proved that he is still a major force in the development of modern drumming. No one plays like Ginger Baker.

Regi Wooten is the Teacher. He is behind so much musical development in American music that mentioning it would sound like bragging. But simply, when he takes off, jaws drop to the floor.

Abass Dodoo is a force of nature. He lifts the spirits with his smile and sends people through the roof with his drumming.

Bardo would like to announce that unfortunately the release of Solo Bass 1991 and Bass 'n Drum, Hellborg's two forthcoming CDs will be delayed a little bit still. We estimate that the release date will be 15th October.

Jonas Hellborg and Ginger Baker played together for the first time 1985 on the now legendary Public image Ltd. recording "Album". Several Tours and Albums ensued, such as "Middle Passage" and "Unseen Rain".

Many prominent musicians have collaborated with the duo through the years, Bill Laswell, Bernie Worell, Jens Johansson, to name just a few.

Ginger Baker has since many years been living in South Africa where he has been concentrating mainly on his love for horses and Polo Playing.

As a rare opportunity, he has agreed to do this tour to give European audiences a chance to sample his still unparalleled approach to drum kit playing, while highly influential on all the generations that came after him, never fully emulated by any other drummer.

Ginger Baker is the Jazz Drummer whose head was turned around by drum legend Phil Seamen introducing him to African drumming. Taking this unique fusion as the rhythmical backbone in forming groups like The Cream, Blind Faith and Airforce he elevated the art of drumming in popular music.

The Jonas Hellborg Group featuring Ginger Baker is musically founded on this Afrocentric approach to rhythm, pinned down by master drummer Abas Dodoo and made complete by one of the most spectacular guitar players on the planet, Regi Wooten.

Many people curse themselves for having missed the chance to see Hellborgs Group with the late Shawn Lane, now the subject of massive trading of recordings from live gigs. Do not miss this chance to experience another groundbreaking musical ensemble.

The Frankfurt Musik Messe is the annual big party for all the exceptional musicians associated with Warwick/Framus. It is a chance to sit down and talk over good food and fine wine, and a chance to make some spontaneous music. This year Lee Sklar and Steve Bailey  joined Jonas and his Indian rhythm engine, Selvaganesh and Ranjit Barot every day at the booth plus a well received performance at legendary club Sinkasten.

 Bass Player magazine has honored Jonas with a cover and a very extensive story over his career. BP editor Brian Fox decided to write the piece himself and indeed did a very good job of it.

Four maestros came together for the Shakti Foundation's Aurjitya 2011 concert on TTK Road, Chennai India February 19th.

“Music begins where words end,” said Goethe. And Aurjitya-2011, the annual fund-raiser concert by The Shakti Foundation affirmed the power of music once again for the 20th year in a row.
The concert in aid of medicare for the rural underprivileged was held at The Music Academy.

 
Mandolin maestro and ambassador of The Shakti Foundation U Shrinivas was joined by V. Selvaganesh on the kanjira, Swedish bass virtuoso Jonas Hellborg and American drummer Steve Smith. The music was a beautiful confluence of the East and the West.
